Before whisks and bowls, there was the need to lift a measured amount of powdered tea from its caddy without bruising it or spilling — and the answer, settled centuries ago, was a single sliver of bamboo carved into a narrow spoon. This one keeps that form: a slim length of bamboo, roughly 180 mm, cut and shaped by hand so the grain runs clean down its length.

A metal spoon is the wrong tool for matcha. It is too wide, too cold, and it compacts the powder against the side of the tin. The chashaku's shallow curve lifts a light, even scoop — the traditional measure is about two scoops to a bowl — and its bamboo edge slides under the powder rather than packing it. The same shape works to level or coax the last of the tea from a narrow caddy.

Each piece carries its own grain and colour, so no two are identical. Bamboo is a living material worked without heavy finishing, which is what gives the scoop its warm, matte surface and its lightness in the hand. It sits naturally alongside a whisk and bowl, or on its own for anyone already keeping matcha at home.

Care. Wipe clean and dry; do not soak. Bamboo is natural — grain and tone vary from piece to piece.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0550/9300/2473/files/S442beb27df90482c89725e643674c99ex.webp?v=1784568688
