cherry-blossom-lantern
Cherry Blossom Lantern

Cherry Blossom Lantern in Pink Paper With Sakura Branches

Every spring, Japan follows the cherry blossom front as it moves north, from Kyushu in late March to Hokkaido in May. When the trees open, people gather under them to eat and drink, a custom called hanami, flower viewing. As evening falls, paper lanterns are lit along the paths so the party can go on. Viewing the blossoms by lantern light has its own name, yozakura, night cherry, and the pink glow of lanterns among the branches is one of the best-known images of the Japanese spring.

This cherry blossom lantern brings the two together. Dark, slender branches climb the sphere from the base and divide toward the top. They carry clusters of five-petal flowers in pale and deeper pink, some fully open, others still in bud. The ground is a soft rose, so the whole lantern reads as one color with the branches drawn across it in ink.

The shade is paper stretched over fine horizontal ribs, 12 in across, 30 cm. It opens with a wire expander, hangs from a metal hook and folds flat when the season ends. A bulb on a pendant cord or a small LED inside gives a warm pink light that flatters a room, and the branches show through as fine dark lines.

The cherry blossom lantern suits a bedroom, a nursery, a dressing room or a reading corner. It is a natural choice for spring parties: a bridal shower, a baby shower, a birthday, a garden lunch under cover, or a hanami picnic recreated at home. Hung in a group at different heights with white or pale pink globes, it makes a ceiling installation for a wedding or a shop window.

Sakura lasts about a week on the tree, which is part of its meaning: beauty that is brief and should be enjoyed while it is there. Use it indoors and away from moisture.

Features:

Diameter: 12 in (30 cm)

Material: paper shade on a ribbed frame

Design: sakura branches with pink flowers

Color: pink

Metal hook at the top, opens with a wire expander

Folds flat for storage, for indoor use

Sold individually, bulb and cord not included
