Weighted at the base, it rocks back upright whenever it is knocked over, which is why it has stood for persistence since the Edo period. This Japanese neon sign redraws that figure in light: a red body, a pale face with heavy black brows, two glowing amber eyes and, across the belly, the kanji 福, fuku, good fortune.

The glow comes from flexible LED tubing fixed to a clear acrylic panel cut to the outline of the figure. Unlike glass neon, LED tubing stays cool, makes no hum and draws very little power, so the sign can run all evening above a counter or beside a bed. Unlit, the printed face and red body still read clearly in daylight, so it never looks like a blank panel on the wall.

Power comes through a 5V USB cable: a phone charger, a power bank or a computer port is enough. An inline switch turns the sign on and off and steps through three brightness levels, from a low night-light glow to a full shop-window red. A metal chain is included for hanging, and the flat panel can also lean on a shelf.

Two sizes are available. The smaller one, about 12 in across (30 x 32 cm), fits a bedroom wall, a gaming setup or a bar cart. The larger, about 14.5 in (37 x 36 cm), holds its own in a ramen counter, an izakaya corner or a storefront window. In Japan a Daruma placed near the register is a wish for good business, and the character 福 says the same thing in a single stroke of light.

Features:

Sizes: 30 x 32 cm (11.8 x 12.6 in) or 37 x 36 cm (14.6 x 14 in)

LED neon tubing on a clear acrylic panel

Power: 5V USB cable included

Inline switch with three brightness levels

Metal hanging chain included

Kanji: 福 (fuku, good fortune)

For indoor use

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0550/9300/2473/files/japanese-daruma-neon-sign-30x32cm-studio.jpg?v=1793876542
