The umbrella blending blossom, lotus and a stone bridge
This umbrella gathers several scenes into one canopy. Across an off-white ground, a flowering branch with small birds spreads at the top, a single pink lotus sits to one side, and a misty stone bridge and village drift across the lower half in soft lavender ink. It reads like a folding screen, each section telling its own part of the story.
The mix of motifs is what makes it interesting: the crisp white blossoms and perched birds up top, the bright lotus accent, and the hazy, almost monochrome landscape below, where a humped bridge crosses pale water toward distant rooftops. The shifts in style — sharp blossom, soft landscape — give the eye plenty to explore. The result feels less like a single picture than a small gallery gathered onto one canopy.
It's a traditional wagasa, with a paper canopy stretched over fine bamboo ribs spreading from a red-painted center hub. Held overhead, the layered scenes glow through the paper, the bamboo spokes tying the separate vignettes into one continuous dome.

Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
