The umbrella brushed with a misty bridge town
This umbrella reads like an ink wash come to life. Across the canopy, a riverside town unfolds in soft lavender-gray: an arched stone bridge crowded with tiny figures, whitewashed houses under dark tiled roofs, boats drifting on the water and bare trees sketched along the bank. It's atmospheric, monochrome and quietly poetic.
The near-monochrome palette is the whole mood: washed in greys and pale lavender, the scene feels hushed and rainy, the striking black roofs and the curve of the bridge anchoring the soft, smudged washes around them. The little figures crossing the bridge bring the quiet town to life. The crowd of tiny figures on the bridge gives the still scene a touch of everyday life.
It's a traditional wagasa, with a paper canopy stretched over fine bamboo ribs spreading from a red-painted center hub. Held overhead, the misty town glows softly through the paper, the bamboo spokes crossing the brushed scene like a fine grid.
The ink-wash landscape sets it apart from the colorful florals, a parasol for those who prefer the quiet drama of monochrome painting. As a decorative and ceremonial piece, it suits photography, display and traditional dress rather than actual rain.
Built on a bamboo handle with an 80 cm canopy and a light 250 g body, it's crafted traditionally with an eco-minded approach. An ink-wash parasol for anyone drawn to misty towns and the poetry of monochrome.
Held against the light, the lavender washes glow and the dark roofs and bridge stand out crisply, giving the quiet town real atmospheric depth in photographs. Kept out of the rain and handled with care, the painted paper holds its poetic, monochrome mood for years of dry-weather ceremony and display.

Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we want you to know it. Every piece in our collection draws from Japanese culture, design, and street style: from the energy of Tokyo's neighborhoods to the calm of Kyoto's workshops, from the prints of vintage textiles to the silhouettes of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothing designed for daily wear, anywhere in the world.
Our pieces are produced through manufacturing partners in Asia who share our standards for quality and craft. The exact composition of each piece is listed on its product page and inner label.
We don't sell an origin. We share a spirit.
