The blue of Japanese workers, turned into a jacket you actually choose

Indigo was never a fashion colour in Japan — it was the colour of work, the dye in the coats of farmers and tradesmen because it was cheap, tough and hid wear. This navy kimono jacket for men borrows that honest blue and turns it into something you pick on purpose: a short open layer in deep marine with a bit of that working-cloth backbone.

The detailing is clean and considered. A cream contrast border traces both front edges and the hem, and the elbow-length sleeves turn back with a pale folded facing that catches the light. The navy body stays solid and print-free, so the colour and the crisp pale edging carry the whole piece.

The reason to own navy over black: same versatility, warmer feel. Over a white tee it goes clean and almost nautical; over grey it turns quiet and grown-up; over black it adds depth without the dead flatness of black-on-black. The pale edging keeps it sharp in every case, so it never slips into looking like plain loungewear.

It's made from a textured cotton-linen blend with a soft, lived-in surface and an easy drape from the shoulder. The navy is dyed to stay deep rather than fading to a tired grey-blue, and the cream facings hold their contrast over time. The relaxed fit sits comfortably over a shirt without pulling across the back.

Reach for this if you want the kimono silhouette in a colour you'll wear on repeat and never tire of. It suits the man building a blue-and-neutral wardrobe who wants one Japanese-inspired layer that goes with all of it. Wear it open over a tee with denim or chinos. It runs slim, so size up by one for comfortable layering room.

Good to know

  • Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Every product page has its own size chart with exact measurements taken flat, so you can compare against a piece you already own. Still caught between two sizes? Email support@japan-clothing.com and a real person will help you pick the right one.

  • Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.

A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:

    • Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
    • Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
    • Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
    • Do not bleach
    • Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
    • Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
    • For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first

Treated right, these pieces hold their shape, color and detail wash after wash.

  • Delivery. We ship worldwide, directly from our manufacturing partners in Asia. Most orders arrive within 7–15 business days, depending on where you are. If your order hasn't arrived within 30 days, we'll make it right — a full refund or a replacement, your call.

Tracking. As soon as your order ships, you'll get an email with a tracking link, so you can follow your package the whole way. Lost track of it? Email support@japan-clothing.com and we'll check for you.

Returns. You have 30 days from delivery to return an item for a full refund, exchange or store credit. Returns are free worldwide — we cover the return shipping. Just email us and we'll send you a prepaid label.

  • All prices include taxes — what you see is what you pay, with nothing added at checkout. Import duties are handled on our end, so for the vast majority of orders you won't pay a thing on delivery. And in the rare case a fee does slip through, we cover it — just email support@japan-clothing.com and we'll take care of it.

  • Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we'd rather you hear it from us. Every piece draws from Japanese culture, design and street style: the energy of Tokyo's backstreets, the calm of a Kyoto workshop, the prints of vintage textiles, the cut of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothes built for daily wear, anywhere in the world.

The pieces themselves are produced by manufacturing partners in Asia. The exact composition of each one is listed on its product page and printed on the inner label — no guesswork, no fine print.

We don't sell you an origin. We share a spirit.

  • When you order from Japan Clothing, here's what you can count on:

    • Transparent pricing. All prices include taxes — no hidden fees, no surprises at delivery.
    • Quality guaranteed. If a piece arrives damaged, defective or not as described, we'll replace it or refund you in full.
    • Easy returns. 30 days from delivery, with free return shipping — exchange, store credit or refund, your choice.
    • Privacy respected. Your personal data stays with us. We never sell, share or rent it — full details in our Privacy Policy.
    • Real human support. Every email is answered by an actual person, usually within 24 hours.

If anything feels off with your order or your experience, email support@japan-clothing.com — we'll make it right.
