Full-Size Black Samurai Armor With Tall Gold Kuwagata and Red Tassels
The two tall blades rising from this helmet are kuwagata, and their name comes from a farming tool — the shape derives from a hoe blade. They served no protective purpose whatsoever. They existed so that a commander's helmet could be identified across a field at a glance, and the taller and more improbable the crest, the higher the rank it was signalling.
Shōgun Kurogane pairs that display with a genuinely restrained body. The dō is black lacquer, broken by a bronze medallion flanked by two red silk tassels, and the kusazuri panels are laced in gold, white and black bands that read almost as textile rather than plate. Purple cord ties the shin guards and edges the skirt.
Color combinations like this were not decorative accidents. Lacing patterns, tassel colors and the arrangement of banded rows identified workshops and periods, and a warrior's suit could be dated by people who knew the conventions long after his name was forgotten.
Sixteen kilograms for the full set, cut for a wearer between 165 and 175 cm, and supplied with a wooden display box. Assembled plate by plate and finished by hand, built to be worn rather than only exhibited. Sizing and certain details can be adapted before production, and a full photo dossier can be sent by email beforehand.
The medallion at the center of the cuirass sits where a clan crest would normally go, and the red tassels flanking it are agemaki — knots that were structural before they were ornamental, anchoring the cords that held the shoulder guards in place. On this suit they are kept in their original position rather than moved for effect.

The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
