This furoshiki renders the seigaiha wave pattern in regal color: rows of overlapping arcs in violet, mauve, rose and burgundy, threaded throughout with abundant gold. Purple has long been a color of nobility in Japan, which lends this wave cloth a rich, dignified air.
The arcs ripple across the surface in shifting purples and pinks, the heavy gold outlining giving the whole panel a shimmering, almost brocade-like depth. It's the most opulent of the seigaiha colorways, the violet ground reading luxurious where the blue stays cool and the rainbow stays playful. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
