The embroidery cap wearing a koi pond as textile art
Japanese embroidery — nihon shishu — is a centuries-old craft of building images in fine thread, dense and luminous, once reserved for ceremonial garments. This cap borrows that spirit for a koi-pond scene, the fish that symbolize perseverance circling in stitched water.
The front carries a detailed embroidered koi-pond motif, the fish and ripples worked in colored thread for depth and relief. It's the most craft-forward piece in the range — a small textile artwork sitting where a logo usually goes. The stitch sits raised against the twill, catching light where a flat print would simply lie there dull.
Colorways run Black, Light Blue, White and Stone. Black gives the pond drama and depth; Light Blue ties it to water; White and Stone keep it clean. The cap stays unstructured and low-profile. The pond scene fills the front where a logo usually goes, and the soft low crown lets that dense stitchwork sit flat and readable — a small textile artwork given the space to be seen.
Construction is 100% cotton twill, six embroidered eyelets, adjustable antique-buckle strap for one-size wear. Fully embroidered rather than printed — which is the whole point — holding its detail over years.
It's the most craft-forward piece in the range — closer to a small textile artwork than a graphic, for the person who values how a thing is made as much as what it shows. The density of the stitching is the whole point, a quiet flex of technique sitting where a flat logo usually goes. Where most caps wear a logo, this one wears a craft — and the difference is visible at arm's length. The cotton twill gives the dense pond scene a flat, stable ground to sit on, and the antique buckle finishes the back cleanly — a quiet frame for what is really a small piece of textile art.

Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Every product page has its own size chart with exact measurements taken flat, so you can compare against a piece you already own. Still caught between two sizes? Email support@japan-clothing.com and a real person will help you pick the right one.

Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
Treated right, these pieces hold their shape, color and detail wash after wash.

Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we'd rather you hear it from us. Every piece draws from Japanese culture, design and street style: the energy of Tokyo's backstreets, the calm of a Kyoto workshop, the prints of vintage textiles, the cut of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothes built for daily wear, anywhere in the world.
The pieces themselves are produced by manufacturing partners in Asia. The exact composition of each one is listed on its product page and printed on the inner label — no guesswork, no fine print.
We don't sell you an origin. We share a spirit.
