The denim shorts that arrive already ten years old
There's a particular fade you only get from years of sun and washing — pale where the fabric flexes, deeper at the seams and edges. These vintage denim shorts fake that timeline convincingly, with blown-out thighs and seat, whiskering at the hip and darker denim holding the outline together. The thrift-store find, minus the digging.
It's all in the wash. The faded centres and shadowed edges give the cloth a depth a flat dye never manages, and the whiskering reads like creases earned over real wear. You could wear these straight from the box and have three people ask where you got such a good old pair.

A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
