The takoyaki cap for people who wear their street food
Takoyaki — molten balls of batter and octopus, flipped in cast-iron molds and showered with sauce, bonito and mayo — is Osaka's gift to street eating. Born in the 1930s, it's the snack that defines festival stalls and late nights, equal parts comfort and theatre as the bonito flakes dance in the heat.
This cap puts a playful octopus-and-takoyaki motif on the front in colored embroidery, worked in thread so it stays vivid and fun rather than flat. It's the cheekiest piece in the lineup — built for street-food obsessives and Harajuku energy. The sauce, the bonito, the little curl of the tentacles all sit picked out in separate thread colors, so the whole snack reads clearly even at a glance.
Colorways run Black, Stone, Light Blue and White. Black makes the motif pop hardest; White and Stone keep it clean; Light Blue adds an easy, playful tone. The cap stays low and unstructured. The motif sits centred and vivid on the front, and the soft low crown keeps the whole thing fun and casual — the most playful piece in the range, and the one most likely to get a laugh.
Build is 100% cotton twill, six embroidered eyelets, adjustable antique-buckle strap for one-size fit. Embroidered rather than printed, the octopus holds its color and detail through long wear.
It's the cheekiest piece here, the one for someone who'd rather wear street food than a shrine. Anyone who's burned their mouth on a too-hot takoyaki straight off the griddle, watching the bonito flakes curl in the steam, will grin at the reference instantly. The piece for people who'd sooner wear street food than a shrine, and laugh about it on the way out. The cotton twill keeps the playful motif sitting on a clean ground, the stitched eyelets keep air moving, and the antique buckle finishes the back cleanly rather than with a flimsy plastic slider.

Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Every product page has its own size chart with exact measurements taken flat, so you can compare against a piece you already own. Still caught between two sizes? Email support@japan-clothing.com and a real person will help you pick the right one.

Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
Treated right, these pieces hold their shape, color and detail wash after wash.

Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we'd rather you hear it from us. Every piece draws from Japanese culture, design and street style: the energy of Tokyo's backstreets, the calm of a Kyoto workshop, the prints of vintage textiles, the cut of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothes built for daily wear, anywhere in the world.
The pieces themselves are produced by manufacturing partners in Asia. The exact composition of each one is listed on its product page and printed on the inner label — no guesswork, no fine print.
We don't sell you an origin. We share a spirit.
