Kyuhei means old-fashioned, the good kind — the retro Japan of Showa-era signage, hand-painted shopfronts and worn-in workwear. This cap leans into that vintage mood rather than anything slick or new, a nod to the country's mid-century everyday aesthetic.
The front carries an embroidered vintage-style motif, stitched for relief and built to look better as it ages. It's made to read worn-in and characterful, the kind of piece that suits a thrifted jacket and beat-up jeans. The stitch sits raised against the twill, catching light where a flat print would simply lie there dull.
It comes in Black, White, Light Blue and Stone. Black and Stone lean most into the retro feel; White keeps it clean; Light Blue softens it. The cap stays unstructured and low-profile. The motif sits centred on the front and is built to fade and soften handsomely, and the soft low crown only gets more characterful as the cap breaks in — retro that earns its wear. The cap is built to age into something better, the twill softening and the colors mellowing the more it's worn. Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
