The carved bamboo fan that needs no painted leaf
This fan dispenses with paper or fabric entirely — the whole leaf is built from slats of pale, finely fretworked bamboo, each one pierced with a lacy openwork pattern. The decoration is the wood itself, carved and cut so that light filters through the pierced slats when the fan is opened and raised.
The craft is all in the cutting: every slat carries the same fine latticework, and when the fan fans out, the patterns align into a continuous band of openwork across the arc. The natural, blond bamboo tone keeps it warm and organic, a quiet alternative to the bright printed leaves. Run a thumb across the slats and you feel the fretwork as much as see it.

The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
