The waves cap with a nami pattern that never stops
Long before Hokusai, Japan was obsessed with waves. The nami motif — stylized, rhythmic, endlessly repeating — runs through textiles, ceramics and family crests, a pattern that turns the sea's motion into something you can hold still on cloth. It signals resilience and the constant pull of the tide.
This cap carries an embroidered wave design on the front, the curling crests worked in thread so the rhythm reads in relief rather than flat ink. It's a pattern with deep roots, stitched cleanly enough to wear every day. The stitch sits raised against the twill, catching light where a flat print would simply lie there dull.
Four colorways: Light Blue to echo the water, Stone for an earthy calm, White to brighten the crests, Black to make them graphic. The cap stays soft, low and unstructured. The pattern runs across the front so the rhythm carries rather than sitting as a single badge, and the soft unstructured crown keeps the motion flowing instead of stiffening into a logo.
Build is 100% cotton twill, six embroidered eyelets, adjustable antique-buckle strap, one size across heads. Embroidered rather than printed, the wave keeps its crisp curl through long use.
The beauty of the nami pattern is that it never resolves — the crests roll on past the edge of the design as if the sea simply continues off the cap. It's hypnotic up close and graphic from a distance, a motif that's decorated Japanese life for so long it feels less like fashion than like memory. The sea never stops, and neither does the pattern — which is the closest a cap gets to carrying a philosophy. The cotton twill keeps the pattern flat and legible across the front, the stitched eyelets keep air moving, and the soft crown means it wears comfortably through a long warm day.

Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Every product page has its own size chart with exact measurements taken flat, so you can compare against a piece you already own. Still caught between two sizes? Email support@japan-clothing.com and a real person will help you pick the right one.

Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
Treated right, these pieces hold their shape, color and detail wash after wash.

Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we'd rather you hear it from us. Every piece draws from Japanese culture, design and street style: the energy of Tokyo's backstreets, the calm of a Kyoto workshop, the prints of vintage textiles, the cut of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothes built for daily wear, anywhere in the world.
The pieces themselves are produced by manufacturing partners in Asia. The exact composition of each one is listed on its product page and printed on the inner label — no guesswork, no fine print.
We don't sell you an origin. We share a spirit.
