The sukajan where a kirin appears beneath the moon
The kirin is one of Japan's rarest mythical creatures — a hooved, dragon-headed beast said to appear only in times of peace and good rule. On this sukajan it rears beneath a crescent moon among cherry blossom, embroidered in rich raised thread. Getsumei: 'moonlight'. A back piece for those who like their myths uncommon.
The embroidery is detailed and dimensional. Worked in genuine relief with the sheen of true thread, the kirin, moon and blossom stand off the satin-finish shell, gold and pink glowing against the ground. The kirin's unusual form — part dragon, part deer — makes it one of the more distinctive motifs in the collection.
It's reversible, giving the kirin two grounds: a deep Blue side with midnight sleeves, and a soft Beige side in cream. Both keep the classic sukajan build: a ribbed collar, snap-button front and ribbed cuffs and hem, in a smooth, light satin-finish fabric that drapes rather than stiffens.
It's heritage streetwear with a rare motif. The sukajan was born as a post-war Yokosuka souvenir jacket, and a kirin is the tradition at its most auspicious and unusual — wear it open over a plain white tee and dark denim, let the moonlit beast carry the look, and flip between blue and cream as you like.
