The red sukajan crowded with spirits and a temple gate
This sukajan tells a darker story. The back is a busy, full-colour scene of folkloric figures and spirits among cherry blossom on a vivid red ground, while the front carries a red torii gate — the threshold between the everyday world and the sacred. Embroidered in dense raised thread, it's a jacket with real narrative.
The embroidery is rich and detailed, worked in genuine relief so the figures, blossom and gate stand off the satin-finish shell with a soft sheen.
