Full-Size Black Samurai Armor With Steel Cuirass and Horned Oni Mask
The menpo is the part of Japanese armor that has no equivalent in European harness. It protected the face, it anchored the helmet cords, and it did a third job that mattered just as much: it replaced the wearer's expression with one that had been chosen in advance. Akuma Taishō takes that idea to its limit — a red demon face with gold horns, fixed in a snarl, with a long black horsehair beard hanging from the chin.
Demon faces on armor were not a costume decision. The oni of Japanese folklore is a creature of overwhelming physical force, and a commander who wore one was borrowing a specific reputation. Facial hair was added for the same reason: age read as authority, and a young officer could buy the impression of an old campaigner.
Beneath the mask, the piece is deliberately restrained. A polished steel dō catches light against black lacquered plates, dark cord laces the rows, and thin blue and gold accents run along the edges. The contrast between the bare steel and the black is what carries the whole silhouette.
Sixteen kilograms, cut for a wearer between 165 and 175 cm, supplied with a wooden display box. Assembled and finished by hand, built to be worn rather than only exhibited. Sizing and selected details can be adjusted before production, and a full photo dossier is available by email on request.
The horsehair beard was fixed to the mask rather than grown, and it served a second purpose beyond intimidation. It broke the outline of the throat, the least protected part of any harness, and made the gap between mask and neck guard harder to judge from a distance — decoration doing quiet defensive work.

Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Every product page has its own size chart with exact measurements taken flat, so you can compare against a piece you already own. Still caught between two sizes? Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
