Full-Size Gold Samurai Armor With Blue Lacing and Horned Kabuto

Gold armor was never about protection. A warlord who could afford a gilded was announcing that he expected to be seen from the far end of a battlefield, and recognized. The Ōgon Shōgun works on that logic: a gilded cuirass, a kabuto crowned with a buffalo-horn maedate, and a face mask fixed in the expression a commander wanted his own troops to find at the front of a line.

The blue silk odoshi lacing is what holds the piece together, in the literal sense. Hundreds of cords run through the plate rows, and in Japanese armor that lacing was as much a signature as the color of the plates — a sign of the workshop, the region, and the money behind it. Here it runs deep indigo against gold, with green brocade panels showing at the shoulders and thighs.

The suit is assembled plate by plate, shaped and finished by hand, and it is built to be worn rather than only looked at. Sixteen kilograms distributed the way historical armor distributed it — weight on the hips, not the shoulders — which is why full sets like this can be worn for an evening rather than a photograph.

It ships with a wooden display box. Sizing and selected details can be adjusted before production, and a photo dossier can be sent by email beforehand — on a piece at this scale, seeing the actual finish matters more than any description.

Gilding on Japanese armor was applied over lacquer rather than onto bare metal, which is why surviving gold suits still read as warm rather than brassy — the color sits on a cured shell instead of a polished plate. The effect changes with the light, and it is the reason a gold suit photographs badly under a single lamp and extremely well under two.

Good to know

  • Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Every product page has its own size chart with exact measurements taken flat, so you can compare against a piece you already own. Still caught between two sizes? Email support@japan-clothing.com and a real person will help you pick the right one.

  • Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.

A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:

    • Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
    • Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
    • Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
    • Do not bleach
    • Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
    • Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
    • For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first

Treated right, these pieces hold their shape, color and detail wash after wash.

  • Delivery. We ship worldwide, directly from our manufacturing partners in Asia. Most orders arrive within 7–15 business days, depending on where you are. If your order hasn't arrived within 30 days, we'll make it right — a full refund or a replacement, your call.

Tracking. As soon as your order ships, you'll get an email with a tracking link, so you can follow your package the whole way. Lost track of it? Email support@japan-clothing.com and we'll check for you.

Returns. You have 30 days from delivery to return an item for a full refund, exchange or store credit. Returns are free worldwide — we cover the return shipping. Just email us and we'll send you a prepaid label.

  • All prices include taxes — what you see is what you pay, with nothing added at checkout. Import duties are handled on our end, so for the vast majority of orders you won't pay a thing on delivery. And in the rare case a fee does slip through, we cover it — just email support@japan-clothing.com and we'll take care of it.

  • Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we'd rather you hear it from us. Every piece draws from Japanese culture, design and street style: the energy of Tokyo's backstreets, the calm of a Kyoto workshop, the prints of vintage textiles, the cut of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothes built for daily wear, anywhere in the world.

The pieces themselves are produced by manufacturing partners in Asia. The exact composition of each one is listed on its product page and printed on the inner label — no guesswork, no fine print.

We don't sell you an origin. We share a spirit.

  • When you order from Japan Clothing, here's what you can count on:

    • Transparent pricing. All prices include taxes — no hidden fees, no surprises at delivery.
    • Quality guaranteed. If a piece arrives damaged, defective or not as described, we'll replace it or refund you in full.
    • Easy returns. 30 days from delivery, with free return shipping — exchange, store credit or refund, your choice.
    • Privacy respected. Your personal data stays with us. We never sell, share or rent it — full details in our Privacy Policy.
    • Real human support. Every email is answered by an actual person, usually within 24 hours.

If anything feels off with your order or your experience, email support@japan-clothing.com — we'll make it right.
