The cream umbrella with orange peonies and birds

This umbrella blooms in warm color. Across a soft cream-to-ivory ground, full peonies open in orange and red along the lower half, their petals lush and layered, while a pair of birds takes flight above and another perches among the branches. It's a rich, painterly scene full of warmth and life.

The painting carries real depth: the orange and red peonies glow against the pale ground, the green foliage grounds them, and the birds — one couple in flight, one settled on a branch — add the movement and focal interest of a classic flower-and-bird composition. It reads like a finely painted scroll. The pair of birds in flight balances the settled one, giving the scene a gentle symmetry.

It's a traditional wagasa, with a paper canopy stretched over fine bamboo ribs radiating from a red-painted center hub. Held overhead, the cream paper warms in the light and the peony-and-bird scene glows, the bamboo spokes fanning through the painting.

The flower-and-bird theme, a beloved genre in East Asian painting, gives the design a enduring, auspicious feel. As a decorative and ceremonial parasol, it suits photography, weddings, traditional dress and display rather than wet-weather use.

Built on a bamboo handle with an 80 cm canopy and a light 250 g body, it's crafted in the traditional way with an eco-minded approach. A warm flower-and-bird parasol for anyone who loves a richly painted canopy.

Twirled slowly overhead, the orange peonies glow and the birds seem to take wing, a warm flower-and-bird scene that photographs beautifully for celebrations. Kept out of the rain and handled with care, the painted paper holds its rich, painterly mood through many a dry-weather event and shoot.

  • Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we want you to know it. Every piece in our collection draws from Japanese culture, design, and street style: from the energy of Tokyo's neighborhoods to the calm of Kyoto's workshops, from the prints of vintage textiles to the silhouettes of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothing designed for daily wear, anywhere in the world.

Our pieces are produced through manufacturing partners in Asia who share our standards for quality and craft. The exact composition of each piece is listed on its product page and inner label.

We don't sell an origin. We share a spirit.
