The poster reproducing Hokusai's busy Nihonbashi in Edo
This poster reproduces Nihonbashi in Edo (Edo Nihonbashi) from Hokusai's series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. A crowded canal runs between rows of white-walled storehouses, packed with boats and a press of figures in the foreground, while a bridge, a castle and the distant cone of Mount Fuji close off the horizon.
The print is a lively snapshot of old Edo, today's Tokyo, at its commercial heart. Hokusai contrasts the bustle of the waterway and the crowd below with the calm, far-off mountain, a recurring device across the series that gives the everyday scene a quiet grandeur. Hokusai keeps the eye moving from the crowd, along the canal and up to the far-off peak.
Here that woodblock image is printed on a wall poster, a faithful reproduction rather than an original print, ready to hang as an affordable piece of art. The busy, detailed composition rewards a closer look while still reading clearly at poster scale.
It suits a living room, study or hallway and brings a sense of historic city life to a wall. The muted period palette pairs easily with both modern and traditional interiors, and the scene appeals to anyone drawn to old Japan and its waterways.
A reproduction of Nihonbashi in Edo from the Thirty-Six Views, it brings a bustling slice of old Tokyo to an everyday wall. A poster for anyone who loves historic city scenes and distant Fuji views.
What makes the scene so rewarding on a wall is its density: there is always another small figure, boat or detail to notice, so the poster keeps giving long after the first glance. It brings a real sense of place and history into a room, a window onto the Tokyo of two centuries ago rather than a simple decorative pattern.
Sizing: this poster comes in three formats — roughly 40x60 cm, 50x75 cm or 60x90 cm. Pick the size that suits your wall from the selector above; the larger formats make a stronger centerpiece, the smaller one slots neatly into tighter spaces.

Our pieces are cut to Asian sizing, which runs smaller than US sizing — so as a rule, order one size up from your usual size. The exceptions are t-shirts and hoodies, which run true to size, so take your usual size for those. Every product page has its own size chart with exact measurements taken flat, so you can compare against a piece you already own. Still caught between two sizes? Email support@japan-clothing.com and a real person will help you pick the right one.

Materials vary from piece to piece — some are 100% cotton, others polyester, satin-finish, or a blend, depending on the design. You'll find the exact composition in the product description above, and it's always printed on the inner label of the garment itself. When the two ever differ, trust the label.
A little care goes a long way with these pieces. To keep colors deep and fabric intact:
- Machine wash cold, 30°C / 86°F maximum — heat is what fades and shrinks
- Turn the garment inside out and wash with similar colors
- Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent; skip the fabric softener on printed or embroidered pieces
- Do not bleach
- Hang to dry in the shade — avoid the tumble dryer, which is the fastest way to ruin the fit
- Iron on low heat if needed, and always inside out over prints or embroidery
- For anything delicate or unusual, follow the inner label first
Treated right, these pieces hold their shape, color and detail wash after wash.

Japan Clothing is inspired by Japan, not made in Japan — and we'd rather you hear it from us. Every piece draws from Japanese culture, design and street style: the energy of Tokyo's backstreets, the calm of a Kyoto workshop, the prints of vintage textiles, the cut of modern streetwear. We translate that inspiration into clothes built for daily wear, anywhere in the world.
The pieces themselves are produced by manufacturing partners in Asia. The exact composition of each one is listed on its product page and printed on the inner label — no guesswork, no fine print.
We don't sell you an origin. We share a spirit.
