This umbrella borrows the look of fine blue-and-white porcelain. Across a clean white paper canopy, peonies bloom in layered shades of cobalt and pale blue, gathering at the top and bottom of the dome, with a column of fine characters brushed down one side. The effect is crisp, graphic and quietly refined.

The blossoms are rendered in the tonal blue style of classic ceramics — deep cobalt for the shadows, soft washes for the petals — so each peony reads with real depth against the bright white ground.
